Subject vision

At the heart of our vision for MFL at GW is a belief that all pupils can succeed in a language and should enjoy the challenge and sense of achievement that this involves.  This lead us to create the following values statement:

  • We believe that languages are a truly exceptional subject that enable pupils to be taken out of their comfort zones, to develop crucial transferable skills and to become better, more well-rounded individuals.
  • We believe that languages will raise future aspirations and open doors for our pupils.
  • We encourage respect for and curiosity in other cultures and regularly expose pupils to new and unfamiliar elements of Spanish and French culture.
  • We strive to make our lessons appropriate and engaging for the pupils in front of us and constantly strive to improve the resources that we produce.
  • We encourage mistakes and make it clear to pupils that effort far outweighs perfection, and we reward all pupils who have a go and are prepared to get it wrong.
  • We use interactive teaching strategies to ensure that all pupils are engaged in the learning and that we are aware of how their learning is progressing.
  • Oracy and speaking out loud, as well as listening carefully are key components of our lesson and we use phonics and the breaking down of words into syllables to enable all pupils to successfully speak the language.
