Make your summer count with a paid internship.
Our paid internship programme is designed to give university students a taste of teaching in a secondary school.
From Monday 29th June - Friday 17th July, interns earn up to £425 a week and develop the skills and experience needed to kickstart a successful teaching career.
Get paid to try out teaching
Over three weeks, you’ll get the chance to:
→ Shadow and observe experienced teachers and jointly plan and deliver lessons
→ Network and learn from subject specialists to run subject-related projects
→ Be a part of supporting consistent, quality education for young people
Additionally, you’ll interact and work closely with outstanding mentors from United Teaching’s teacher training programme.
You’ll finish the programme with an insight into what it’s like to be a teacher and work in a school, and how you can use your subject knowledge to make a difference.

What to expect
Week 1
You’ll be welcomed to your school and, with other interns, receive training on teaching and learning, leading the classroom, and safeguarding.
Week 2
You will observe lessons both in and outside your area of subject expertise, so you get to see how teaching can be consistent while also catering to different subjects and year groups.
You will prepare and deliver your own 10-minute lesson and receive one-to-one feedback on what you did well and what you could improve.
Week 3
After completing your final classroom observations and asking any final questions you might have for experienced teachers and leaders, you will prepare and deliver a short group presentation on everything you have learned during your internship.
Depending on your subject, you might also have opportunities to go on a school trip or attend school events.
