Subject vision

Helping students gain an insight into the competitive world of business and providing them with a ground knowledge of how to set up and run a successful business enterprise.

Year 10

Autumn 

Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and spotting a business opportunity. 

Students will be able to understand the characteristics of an entrepreneur and understand how to satisfy customer needs through market research and segmentation. 

Spring 

Putting Business ideas into practice and making the business effective.  

Students will understand business aims and objectives and understand how to calculate revenue, costs and profits. Students will also discover the needs of a business plan and the marketing mix. 

Summer 

Understanding External influences on the business 

Students will understand what can impact a business with strong links to the real world. They will understand Law, legislation, and the economy. Students will also prepare for Year 10 mock exam 

Year 11

Autumn 

Growing the business and making marketing decisions.  

Students will understand what is required to expand their business and how to market effectively. 

Spring 

Making operational and finance decisions and HR.  

Students will understand how to work with suppliers, manage the quality of production and how to recruit employees effectively. 

Summer 

Calculations and exam preparation  

Students will look into key calculations in the world of business such as interest rates, exchange rates and profit margins. Alongside preparation for the Year 11 GCSE examination. (2 papers) 

Extracurricular (clubs and trips)

Throughout the year students will have local entrepreneurs as guest speakers to share their experiences and answer questions from students from a real-world perspective.  

Students will take part in work experience as part of the Y10 careers plan. 

Careers

Further study opportunities at College, 6th form and university. Level 3 enterprise and marketing, A- Level Business studies, BSC Hons in Business management, Business marketing, Business management with Sport. Becoming an entrepreneur, sales manager, estate agent.
