Our commitment to the environment, delivered by our carbon neutral champions, plays a significant role in delivering our mission statement for our students. By committing to sustainability and carbon neutral targets, we ensure that all of our students are able to lead joyful, fulfilled lives, in a clean and healthy environment.

Glenmoor & Winton Academies follows the following statement as its core policy for energy management.

Turn it down, turn it off, shut it down.

30% of United Learning’s carbon footprint comes from energy usage within schools. To reduce the academies’ carbon footprint and to contribute to United Learning’s overall carbon neutral and sustainability targets, it is important for the academies to reduce or eliminate unnecessary energy usage.

Facilities

  • We have solar panels installed on each roof across both sites, providing hot water for the school and feeding back into the local energy grid.
  • Our lighting replacement scheme is nearly complete and has replaced energy inefficient bulbs with energy efficient LEDs, with hallway lighting being operated on timers.
  • Our IT equipment is operated on timers and will automatically turn off monitors or projectors after inactivity. All our computers will turn off at a set time if unused.
  • We use papercut to monitor our paper and printer usage.
  • Exterior doors are automated or on auto-closers to reduce loss of heat.

Student Forum

Each year we elect two student leaders to champion the Environment Forum. This forum provides an opportunity for students to give feedback and share ideas with the senior leadership team for each selected subject area.

For an example of climate work that our students have been producing, please watch the video below, produced by our 2024-25 student forum leaders for national recycling week.

Our environment policy can be viewed in our policies section.
